Based on their performances this summer, the two young dancers may gain acceptance into the official school program. Charlotte, 10, has been dancing at the HHSD her entire life. She is following her sis- ter Julias footsteps, who also danced with HHSD and is now enjoying her second year at the National Ballet School. This year, Julia per- formed the lead role of Marie in The Nutcracker. The Reid girls come by their talent naturally as their mother, Sheri Reid, who also teaches at the HHSD, once danced with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Kristen, who is also 10, came to HHSD as a gymnast. I knew the second I saw her dance that she had a special gift, said Allisson Pasma, studio owner and teacher. Kristen made her final decision to leave the gym last summer and has been dancing her way to the top ever since. Both girls are not only extremely gifted, but also hard-working and determined. Were all so very proud of them, said Pasma. Over the past three years, HHSD has now sent three girls to the National Ballet and Erin Brennan to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Earlier this month, Charlotte and Kristen and several other members of the HHSD performed at the Al Green Theatre in Toronto to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital in memory of Robin Barhydt, one of their students who lost her battle to cancer last year. All of the students are busy preparing for their Royal Academy of Dance examinations, as well as, preparing for upcoming competitions and the year-end show at the John Elliott Theatre. HHSD is still accepting new registrations until March 10. For more information about the HHSD, go to www.hhsd.ca or call 905-877- 1581.
