Both drivers were charged. Photo by Ted Brown While there have been a few complimentary calls to the Towns Public Works Department over the past couple of weeks, most of the 200 calls Town staff have been inundated with have been complaints about the job theyre doing on snow clearing. The most common grumbles are that the roads and sidewalks arent being cleared quick- ly enough or good enough, or that a Town snowplow has knocked down a rural mailbox, says Town Public Works super- visor Dick Spear. And theyre not just call- ing in their beefs, the plow operators are also hearing from the angry residents directly, said Spear. The drivers are being told to come down the street next time with the plow down, Spear said, and people are yelling at them because they are plowing snow into the end of their freshly- cleared driveways. Spear, however, has nothing but praise for his 27-member public works staff. Six Recreation and Parks employees also help out in the winter. My staff has worked around the clock since it (all the snow this month) started, said Spear. Im very proud of my staff. I wouldnt trade them for anything. A collision between a gravel truck and a school bus with no passengers on Trafalgar Rd. Friday morning resulted in only a minor injury to the bus driver but caused the road to be closed for 10 hours. Halton Police say the accident occurred at about 8:25 a.m. south of Five Sideroad when the driver of the school bus, that had no chil- dren on board, was attempting to reverse the bus into a residential driveway on the east side of the road. While she was reversing and turning the vehicle into the driveway the front of the bus entered the southbound lane where it was struck by a dump truck hauling a pup trailer, fully loaded with gravel. The driver of the truck attempted to avoid the bus and swerved to the right. The truck spilled its load when it flipped on its side and landed in the ditch. The truck driver wasnt injured. The bus dri- vers minor injury was treated at the scene. The bus received moderate damage, and the truck severe damage to its front end. The bus driver, a 32-year-old Halton Hills woman, was charged with careless driving. The 44-year-old male truck driver from Brampton was charged with unsafe operation of a commercial vehicle, improper brake adjustment and fail to record defect on inspection report.
