Last Weeks Solution: SUDOKU Difficulty Rating: Easy Acton/Georgetown, Friday, February 22, 2008 9 St. Johns United Church is once again hosting the Royal City Ambassadors on Saturday, Feb. 23. The 40-voice all male singing group from Guelph is coming back to St. Johns by popular demand. For the uninitiated, Barbershop is four-part, unaccompanied music. Thats right... just a pitch pipe to get you started and after that its all up to your ears. It fea- tures close-harmony singing, with the melody carried by the second voice, called the lead. The tenor (counter- tenor) voice harmonizes above the lead singer; bass sings the lowest harmoniz- ing notes, and the baritone provides in- between notes. Barbershop music is in the style of the old songs from the heyday of Tin Pan Alley, circa 1890-1920. Tin Pan Alley is the name given to the collec- tion of New York City-centered music publishers and songwriters who domi- nated the popular music of the United States in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Tickets are $15 per person (children under 10 are free) and can be reserved by calling 905-877-2531. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
