No one was injured in the crash in which the Halton Hills fire departments hazardous materials team responded and quickly determined none of the cars posed a health risk. Frank Binder, regional manager of CN Public Affairs, said the apparent cause of the accident was the mechanical failure of a rail car coupler the mechanism used for connecting railway cars in a train. The derailment is still under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board. The derailment of 20 cars on the westbound CN train at about 2:10 a.m. closed the CN line in the 10th Line area and left both GO and VIA Rail train passengers scrambling for other methods to get to work Wednesday. Yesterday (Thursday) commuters experi- enced delays of about 10-15 minutes due to restricted speeds through the derailment site. Binder said there were no injuries and no one was evacuated from the area. There were no spills, or environmental issues resulting from the incident and no crossings were blocked.
