This means that local citizens will only need to remember one number to contact Halton Region, the City of Burlington, Towns of Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills, Halton Distr ict School Board, Halton Catholic District School Board and Halton Regional Police Service (for non-emergency calls). To date, nine municipalities in Canada have implemented 311 and several others are in the planning stages. There are approximately 60 active 311 systems in the United States as well. The Region says Haltons 311 sys- tem is unique in that it provides the public with access to both levels in a two-tiered municipal government environment as well as non-emer- gency police and school boards.
