The 21-year-old senior began the 54-hole tourney in Greensboro, Ga. with a pair of four-under-par 68s and then closed out his final round with a 72 to win by three strokes. Greenwell has certainly turned in some good finishes during his time with the Tigers varsity mens team, but victory has eluded him. It sure feels good to finally get a win, he told Golfweek magazine. Its especially nice to get it here, on a great golf course and against some of the best players in the country. It was just a great week. For his efforts, Greenwell was named Conference U.S.A. Golfer of the Week. Ontarios top junior golfer in 2004, Greenwell was in Mobile, Ala. yesterday to play in the South Alabama Spring Classic and has a couple of other tournaments left in his collegiate career before the conference final tour- nament in Arkansas April 20-22. He has a full slate of tournaments this summer, including U.S. Amateur qualifying, and will return to Memphis in the fall for one semester to complete his sports management degree. Greenwell intends to turn professional in January 2009. Another Georgetown golfer, Ryan Thomson, finished sixth in an international 80-player field at the Future Collegians World Tour event at the Mission Inn Golf Club north of Orlando, Fla. over the weekend. The 17-year-old Thomson, a Grade 12 Christ the King student, recorded rounds of 77-74-74 to finish at nine over par, 10 shots back of the winner from India. The FCWT is primarily a showcase circuit for U.S. college golf coaches and draws some of the worlds top juniors. Greenwell ends U.S. college golf drought Late heroics After eluding a sliding defender, Miltons Zachary Brady got a backhand away that appeared headed for the net but Georgetown goalie Matt Hoekstra got just enough of it to send it wide. The overtime save kept the Georgetown Peewee AE Raiders alive and they would later score for a 3-2 victory. Milton led 2-1 but the Raiders scored with just 3.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Georgetown leads the best-of-five Tri-County final 2-0. File photo One Georgetown Raider team has already clinched an Ontario Minor Hockey Association champi- onship and three others are still in the hunt this week as the season comes to a close. The Hungry Man Raiders swept Barrie away in their best-of-5 minor midget AE Group 1-3 final, taking the opener 4-1 on the road before posting 2-0 and 4-2 victories in Georgetown. Georgetowns Ultimate Hockey Training minor bantam AE Raiders were looking to capture the OMHA title on home ice on Tuesday as they lead Newmarket 2-1 in the best-of-5 championship. The Raiders won the first two games 3-2 and 1-0, before being edged 2-1 in Newmarket last Thursday. Another hard-fought series has played out in the minor mid- get AA f inals , in which Geo- rgetowns Wild Wing Raiders lead Barrie five points to three. Game five was played Tuesday evening in Barrie, and if a sixth game is required, it will take place Thursday at 9 p.m. at the Alcott Arena. It has also come down to one game for the OMHA minor bantam AA crown, with the Buywise Windows & Doors Raiders of Georgetown tied with Richmond Hill 2-2 going into this Thursdays possible deciding contest at Richmond Hill. The Georgetown Minor Hockey Association will wrap up its 2007- 08 house league campaign with its annual Weekend of Champions this weekend at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex. Games begin Friday evening and finish up Saturday afternoon, involving all age groups ranging from junior tyke to midget/juvenile on both rinks.
