Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Katharine will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her sister Janet, four children Allan, Nora, Neil and Kevin, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Born July 16th, 1917 in India to mis- sionary parents dedicated to adult education, Katharine was a devoted Christian whose focus in life was service - to family, church, and the global community. She married Stanley Chamberlain Best in 1941, and worked over her career as a social worker for the YWCA, Regina School Board, University of Michigan counselling services, and Lakeshore Psychiatric in Toronto. Katharine and Stanley spent most of their children's formative years in Saskatche- wan, where the young couple had gone for Stanley to be involved in pediatric public health and the pio- neering development of Canada's medicare system. They moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and then back to their roots in Ontario, settling first in Mississauga (Erindale United Church) and then later Katharine in Georgetown (St. John's United Church). Katharine spent her final two years in the loving care of the long-term care family at the Bennett Centre in Georgetown, for which the family expresses deep gratitude and thanks. Katharine celebrated her 90th birthday last July with all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren - she was much loved and a friend to all.
