Through the efforts of two local dancers, not only will the Canadian Cancer Society and Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills benefit, but the girls two aunts will be remembered. Christ the King students Jenny Bowser and Melanie Chin are both dancers and have been feeding their passion for sever- al years. They met at school after taking some classes together, and found they shared a love of dance. Bowser has danced for years with Center Stage School of the Performing Arts and is now also teaching there, while Chin currently dances with Marie Ann Longlade School in Mississauga, and also danced in Jamaica for four years. They discovered they also had another common bond both girls have recently lost an aunt to cancer. We decided to use dance to do some- thing meaningful, said Bowser, We both had our passion, and we could use it to make money for cancer research, as well as give a great tribute to our aunts too. The duo have put together Dancers for Cancer, a show that runs Friday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 8, in the theatre of Christ the King High School. The show will feature more than 50 dancers taking part, with both song and dance numbers, as well as some speakers, including a Grade 10 student who has recently complet- ed her treatment at Sick Kids, and a video of a local four- year-old leukemia patient who is presently in remission. Were holding a silent auction at the intermission as well, added Bowser, All proceeds from the auction will go to CAShh and rest goes to the Canadian Cancer Society. Because both girls are students at Christ the King, they have the use of the theatre at no charge, and the entire show is cost-free. As a result, every penny raised is going directly to the charities. Bowser is no stranger to raising funds for cancer research. Last year, at her 16th birthday party, she raised more than $2,000 for colon cancer research. Tickets are $10 each and can pur- chased by contacting Chin at melanie.chin@yahoo.ca, or 905-873-6659, or Bowser at jenny.bowser@hotmail.com or at 416-550-5505.
