The OCNA annually recog- nizes youths between the ages of 6 and 17 who perform worthwhile community service, acts of heroism or who are "good kids" who make their communities better. Rowan, a lifeguard at the Byng Conservation Area Pool in Dunnville, was recognized for helping res- cue a 14-year-old girl last July who was face down in the water. Rowan spotted the girl, dove in and brought her to the pool edge where he and another lifeguard began to per- form CPR. The girl, from Michigan, was taken to hospital and made a complete recovery. Rowan is currently an engineering student at McMaster University and was a founding member of the Christ the King swim team and has been a member of the Georgetown Children's Chorus since the age of six. An Ontario scholar in 2007, Rowan has also been recognized with the Bishop's Award for Service at Holy Cross Church for his involve- ment in the parish.
