The Georgetown Skating Club has big plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a pair of shows at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex, carrying the theme The Golden Years of TV and Movies. Directed and produced by local profes- sional coach Danyelle Orton, more than 200 skaters are slated to take part in the Ice Show, including some special guests who recently earned medals at both Canadian and world championship events. The show times are at 2 and 7 p.m. As well as several groups of Georgetown Skating Club members, guest skaters for the performances include the Junior and Senior Gold Ice synchronized skating teams from Skate Canada Brampton- Chinguacousy. The Junior Ice, crowned as the 2008 Canadian champions last month, also earned silver medals recently at the world championships in Rouen, France. Also featured are two retiring GSC members, Kathleen Dennis and triple gold skater Kaitlyn Ford, along with juvenile competitive skater Bethany Rees. Tickets can be purchased at the door. The Acton Skating Club is also staging its 43rd-annual carnival this Saturday, fea- turing two shows, at 1 and 7 p.m. at the Acton Arena. Actons own Maja Vermeulen and her Junior Ice Dance partner Andrew Doleman will perform their new routine in public for the first time at the carnival. Georgetown, Acton skating clubs to stage Saturday shows The Georgetown Minor Hockey Association held its annual Weekend of Champions this past weekend to deter- mine winners in each of the house league divisions. The following is a roundup of the weekends action. Junior Tyke The Sharks overcame a 5-3 deficit mid- way through the game and defeated the Maple Leafs 7-6 to win the Tim Hortons Junior Tyke gold medal title at the Alcott Arena last weekend. Bradley Smith set the pace for the Sharks with five goals, while Ethan Loginov and Jack Stallworthy added sin- gles. Sharks goalie Kody Baker stymied the Leafs during the second half of the game until Nathan Mara hat trick marker pulled the Leafs to within a goal. With the net empty for an extra attacker, the Leafs ran out of chances in a hard-fought, excit- ing game. The Leafs other goal scorers were Patrick OReilly, Jack Dool and Erik Herman. Excellent goaltending by Kyle Kernick proved to be the difference as the Stars were held off the scoresheet until Carter Urie scored with two minutes left in the third period. James Keenleyside provided the third Blackhawk goal.
