Scott Lord 905-877-6161 or 647-380-1330 2 Young at Heart, Wednesday, April 9, 2008 SENIORS LIFESTYLES Spring is here! At last! Isnt it great to feel the warmth of the sun? I was thinking about having my snow tires taken off but all the pessimists are telling me no. We might still have a snow storm in April. I know in my heart of hearts they are wrong but I guess Ill wait another week at least. With the first signs of spring come out the new ladies fashions and that means a fashion show, first of the sea- son. Geri Fashions will be at the Centre on Monday, April 28. There will be wonderful fashions to view and purchase along with prizes, and refreshments. You can come early to view the clothes. The actual Fashion Parade begins at 1 p.m. By then you will have the urge to throw off your heavy winter clothing for something light and colourful. This will be the place and time to do that! Come on out and bring your friends. That means you must watch how many pancakes you eat at the mens All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 19. For a mere $5 you get orange juice, pan- cakes, sausages, and maple syrup. Of course, tea and coffee are avail- able. Sounds like a good deal to me. It is open to the public as well. Gather up your neighbours and friends and come on out. Breakfast is served from 8-11 a.m. Now that is a week before the fash- ion show so you should be able to wear off a couple of pancakes by then. Just a reminder of the April 17 lun- cheon to be provided by Copper County Foods. Tickets are available at the Reception Desk and there are a limited number for sale. A wonderful opportunity to sample their wares before you place an order. I have had a couple of orders from them and per- sonally I find their selections quite tasty. The Computer Course got underway on Wednesday, April 2. There were a few glitches but everything is ironed out now. This class is meet- ing twice a week for eight weeks. It appears to be a very popular course especially for those of us who got new computers with the Vista Windows program and Microsoft Word 2007. If you missed this class they will be running an evening course probably beginning in June. There is even some talk of another daytime course but that is not a for certain happening. On Thursday, May 1, there will be a Volunteer Recognition Tea, an oppor- tunity to thank all our hard working volunteers who keep our Centre alive and running. Volunteers come in many shapes and sizes and do a multitude of tasks also in many shapes and sizes. On that day the Centre will close at 12 p.m. noon to set up for the Tea. All programs and drop-in activities will be cancelled that afternoon. Extensive renova- tions are in the plans for our Centre. These will probably begin in June and go into the summer. There are not too many programs then so the disruption should be minimal and come September it will be like a new place. A new digital camera has been purchased for use around the Centre. If there is something you would like to capture on film please feel free to use it. Sherry and Terri can show you how. I would like to express our condo- lences to Lorne Hunter and Family in the loss of Barb Hunter. Barb was a vol- unteer at the Centre and could be seen in the Board Room counting and rolling money on Monday mornings. She also helped to audit the books for several years. Come on out to the Centre and share a cup of tea or coffee find out how you can take an active part in life at the Centre. Spring has sprung and activities bloom at the Georgetown Seniors Centre FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre There was an open house, good-bye and thank you afternoon on Tuesday, April 1 for Sherry Mitchell. She has been the administrative assistant for the Acton Seniors Centre for the past eight years. She will be missed by everyone. She had been dividing her time between the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres. The Town of Halton Hills has budgeted for additional staffing hours for both centres, so Sherry will be able to devote her time fully to the Georgetown centre. We will miss her. She has been a great help to me and guided me through many minefields and helping me when I have computer problems. The Acton Centre has hired Stephanie Frances who will be stepping into some very large shoes. I know everyone at the Centre will welcome her. Sherry will be around for a few weeks to help Stephanie make a smooth transition, ably assisted by Wendy Krever, the co-ordina- tor of our centre. I hear through the grapevine that we have another member of the Centre celebrating a 90th birthday. Congratulations Dorothy Rognvaldson. She and Alma Braida both lead very busy lives volunteering for many different causes. I think that keeping busy helping others must help to contribute to their longevity. Mary Walsma tells me that Dobbie Frizzell and Jack Muir played very well at the Seniors cribbage tournament several weeks ago in Georgetown. They will move on to the District 21 playoffs. Lorraine Fox won the 50/50 on Friday. Lorraine did a great job of keeping the scrapbook for the Centre for many years. Congratulations Lorraine.
