Photo by Jon Borgstrom A Brantford man is dead after falling 50 feet into a sewage pumping station shaft Tuesday after- noon at the Halton Region pumping station site under construction on Steeles Ave. in Hornby. Steven Lundy, 23, an employee of Kingdom Construction Ltd., the company that was building a storm water storage facility for Halton, was pro- nounced dead at the scene, Halton Police report. Both police and the Ministry of Labour (MOL) are investigating the accident. An MOL spokesperson said Lundy was sweep- ing the roof of the concrete storm water storage reservoir when he fell through an opening. Firefighters and Halton EMS were called to the scene at about 4:20 p.m. Lundy was extricated from the shaft by Halton Hills and Milton firefighters. Lifesaving measures by workers and paramedics were unsuccessful. Police say a post mortem done Wednesday determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma consistent with dropping from a significant height. Lundy suffered multiple injuries, police said. The MOL spokesperson said as part of the ongoing investigation the Ministry seized the wooden cover that was used to protect an opening in the roof. A stop work order has been issued for the pro- ject and is still in effect. Grandpa gives grandson the lowdown on tree planting
