Acton/Georgetown, Friday, April 25, 2008 33 The Centre was a busy place last Monday morning. There were eight people playing darts and three people filling the wishing well and picnic basket with goodies for the draw at the Spring Bazaar. The craft ladies busying painting cute sitting geese and childrens coat hangers and as usual on Monday morning the travel desk was in full swing, and I was busy in the corner working on the computer. Did anyone see Wendy Krever, our co-ordinator making the power point presentation to the town coun- cil on Monday, April 7? Three of our members attended the council meet- ing and sat through many other pre- sentations while awaiting her presen- tation. It has been shown on cable TV. She did a great job representing both the Acton and Georgetown seniors centres. Wendy spoke about the impact that the aging baby boomers will have on the Halton Hills senior centres. She also spoke about the centres future space needs and how both centres are planning for the future. I am planning an evening visit to the Wellington County Brewery on Wednesday, June 11. If you are inter- ested, please sign up. We will leave the Centre at 6:15 p.m. and be back at the Centre by 9:30 p.m. We will take a bus, so no one will have to drive. This is one of the last reports from Margaret Neilson as she will be mov- ing at the end of April. Her fellow players asked me to mention they will miss her cheerfulness and it will be very quiet without her excited screams when someone plays well (or not). They wish her well in her new home. She is also a dedicated hiker. Last week results were Peggy Naughtons Brown team beat Grace Grahams Black team, 17-10. There were 10 bowlers enjoying the afternoon. Victor asked me to mention the Diabetes Awareness breakfast on Sunday, May 4 at the Rockmosa Community Hall. There is a free breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by the meeting at 9:20 a.m. For more infor- mation call Victor at 519-853-1242. This is a great opportunity to find out more about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The 50/50 was not won last week. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Probably, by now, you have heard that Kristen Bradley, the co-ordinator from the Georgetown Centre on maternity leave, has handed in her resignation. Her husband, a police- man, has taken a position with the Sudbury Police Force and they will be moving next month. We are sorry she wont be back and wish her and her family all the best in this new endeavour. Coming from the North I know she is aware of the winters. I would like to remind all members, and, anyone reading this column, that when you enter the driveway at the Centre please remember it is a one way trip around the building. Follow the arrows. The Pancake Breakfast held on Saturday, April 19th was a huge success. J.D.Hewitt, Chairperson, extends a huge thanks to all the seniors, family, and friends that came, to the people behind the scenes, to those who took your money and tickets, to the pancake cookers, sausage cookers, juice server, kitchen help, and advertising staff. All con- tributed to a very successful Pancake Breakfast. For your convenience, Geri Fashions will be at the Centre on Monday, April 28. Viewing will be in the morning starting at 10 a.m. the Fashion Show begins at 1 p.m. in the Lounge. Tickets are $5. Refreshments will be served. You may pay for your purchase with Visa or Master Card and cheques, of course, if you prefer. April has been another month with no Diners Club din- ner. It would be nice if everyone who likes to attend these dinners every month took a turn in making the arrange- ments necessary. Step up to the plate and take your turn. We are already into the wedding months. Wondering what to get for a wedding gift? Why not visit Room 12 at the Centre. The walls are adorned with many beautiful pieces of art work, all for sale. Anyone of them would make a lovely gift and keepsake for the bride and groom. Good news for those who like to sing. Plans are afoot to get a choir started again. It has been a couple of years since we had one. Signup sheet is on the counter in reception. Maybe some of the Acton seniors might want to join too. If you do, just call the Centre and have your name added to the list. May 1st is fast approaching. That is the day of the Volunteer Appreciation Tea beginning at 1 p.m. You should have your invitation by now. Please respond if you plan to attend. The Centre will be closed at noon that day and all afternoon drop-in activities are cancelled. Our volleyball team played in a tournament in Oakville. They tell me they got a lot of useful experience and learned a lot most of which I am sure they will put into effect before they go to another tournament. J.D. and Alma share something that has happened to very few at the Centre. What could that be you say? They lost their game in carpet bowling 28-0. They are looking for a coach! Find out how you can be an active part in the Centre. Bridgette did! FLORENCE RIEHL Georgetown Seniors Centre Georgetown Seniors Centre has plans to re-start its choir Acton Seniors like Mondays
