OPINION Congratulation are in order for all those who took part in the annual town spring cleaning events last week Fridays 20-Minute Makeover and Saturdays Clean-Up Day. Through the efforts of citizens, schools, and vari- ous groups more than nine tonnes of trash plus two tandem truckloads of wood, four tandem truckloads of tires, and two tandem truckloads of metal were collected. Every year we are amazed at what some inconsid- erate residents will shamelessly toss away and this year was no different. Among those items were used motor oil, dozens of tires, engine parts and even a small freezer. While this years clean up effort was quite impressive, wed be much more impressed if partici- pants collected less garbage each year because then it would mean fewer litterbugs were desecrating our town. But until the neanderthals who think nothing of depositing hazardous materials (like motor oil) by the roadside or ridding themselves of a freezer by dumping it in a ditch change their ways (or move from this community), we fear those participating in the annual clean up will continue to be busy. Kudos for clean up... Steve Nease LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear editor, Calling all Georgetown District High School grads from 1973 (and thereabouts)! A group of us connected at the Homecoming this past July had a great time and decided to do it all over again. Youll find us: Friday evening, June 20, at Brackys Tap and Grill in Moore Park Plaza Saturday, June 21 holding an outdoor social, including barbecue chicken dinner For more details and information about tickets, including cost and reg- istration deadline, please contact: Karen (Leonard) Tales 905-877- 2885; or Rebels 73 Reunion Committee at gdhsclassreunion@live.ca. THE INDEPENDENT & FREE PRESS 6 Acton/Georgetown, Friday, April 25, 2008 Dear editor, The Photoart exhibition of prints at the Gallery in the Cultural Centre, which is put on by the Halton Hills Camera Club during the month of March, was a great success. However, sometime during the last week of March the print sales book disappeared. We know there were at least eight requests to pur- chase prints. Unfortunately, we do not know who the people are who wanted the prints or which prints. If you wished to purchase a print from one of the photographers at Photoart 2008, would you please contact Sandra Timleck at 905-877- 6198. Your help will be much appreciat- ed. Sandra Timleck, Halton Hills Camera Club Did you order a print from Photoart show? Dear editor, We would like to extend our sin- cerest heartfelt thank you to all of those who helped us immediately after our terrible car accident the afternoon of Sunday, March 23 at the intersection of 10 Sideroad and Mountainview Road. We wish we could remember more about those incredibly kind folks and the emergency response team who selflessly took time to stay with us and our children and helped get us out of the wreck, off the road and to the hospital. From what we can remember, we are forever grateful to the local ambulance, police and fire person- nel for their incredible response time and superior care; those who safely removed our young children from their car seats and the vehicle; the family who stayed at the acci- dent and took care of our children; Paul the off-duty firefighter (I think) who stayed with and helped stabilize my wife until she was safe- ly loaded into the ambulance and the medical team at Georgetown Hospital. Of course we know there are oth- ers who we cannot remember or did not see who helped us just as much and we are just as grateful. The Meal family, Georgetown Accident victims grateful for care shown While were busy handing out kudos, lets send more to the Halton District School Board for its decision to name the new elementary school in Georgetown South Gardiner Public School in honour of longtime educator, trustee and board chair Ethel Gardiner who passed away last year. In our opinion this was the ONLY choice for the new schools name. Gardiners 40-year career with the local school board, her ability to guide the board through some rocky times and, more importantly, her dedication to all Halton students made this decision a no-brain- er. ...and for Gardiner Public School
