Community Calendar A free Smartrisk Heroes show for the public will be held at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School at 7 p.m. on May 7. Families of pre-teens and teens are encouraged to attend. Smartrisk, a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives, is bringing its internation- ally-acclaimed road show for youth to Halton Hills, on May 7, 8, and 9. This program will be presented to all the high school students in Halton Hills. The show is being sponsored locally by the Halton Hills Injury Prevention (HHIP) Committee with the cooperative support of Christ the King, Georgetown District and Acton District high schools. Smartrisk Heroes uses positive messages to help teens understand that it is their choice to take smart risks and pre- vent injuries. This one-hour, fast-paced video presentation lets teenagers know they can choose to Buckle Up, Look First, Wear the Gear, Get Trained and Drive Sober. Through the support of Tyler Transport and First Student Transport, we are busing students in from across our area to see this spectacular, one-of-a-kind show that packs a powerful message, said Halton Hills Police Services Community Liaison Officer and HHIP committee member, Maureen Andrew. This show is a great way to educate our community about making smart choices and the consequences when you do not. Chair of Halton Hills Injury Prevention Committee Terri Forbes said hosting this event helps meet the committees objective to increase awareness of injury prevention across all age groups. HHIP believes that increasing awareness and knowledge can contribute to a reduction in injuries and death in Halton. We really hope that people will take advantage of the free evening show. While it is great we can reach all our high school students with this important message, it is something that can have a strong effect on adults too, said Andrew. A key component involves injury survivors explaining how crossing the line of choice that separates smart risks from stupid risks resulted in them becoming injured. Injuries leading killer of youth Smartrisk Heroes helps teens to learn to take smart risks
