So proud, in fact, that the pub was named after two of Georgetown's founding families: the Barber family and Georgetown's founder George Kennedy. "They were the main bread winners of the original Georgetown," says Amanda Halliday, the pub's general manager. When Mandy, as she likes to be called, moved to Georgetown nine years ago, she immediately embraced the community's small-town feel. She started working at the pub five years ago and has loved every minute of it. "I love the one-on-one relationships I've built with customers," she says. "I've formed life-long friendships." She is proud of Barbertowne's role in supporting the community. The pub sponsors many local events, like charity golf tournaments and the Santa Claus Parade. Amanda wants to invite the community to stop by and sample delicious food and beverages in the pub's friendly, family environment. "Come out and enjoy Saturday wing night starting May 10th!" she says. 360 Guelph St., Georgetown 905-877-6056 Amanda Halliday On any given day, you can find Donna Kuenzig zipping around town between Georgetown Daycare and Nursery School Inc.'s three Halton Hills locations. As the owner and operator, Donna is kept busy overseeing the centre's three programs: daycare, nursery school and school-age, with ages ranging from 15 months to 11 years. Her interest in early childhood education began as a teenager, when she volunteered at a daycare centre. "I realized what a positive impact early childhood educators could have on the children," she says. "I knew right away that this was what I wanted to pursue." Donna went to school and received her diploma in early childhood education. She opened her first daycare program in 1986, followed by the nursery school program a year later. Six years ago, she added the school-age program. Over the years, Donna has enjoyed watching the kids learn, develop and grow. "Children learn not only cognitively, but physically, socially and emotionally as well," she says. "I enjoy being a part in that ongoing development."
