Come learn about the real facts of immunizations to help you make an informed choice about your health and that of your familys. Halton Healthcare Services, in partnership with the Halton Region, is offering a free health education seminar entitled, Vaccines and Immunizations: The Facts and Controversies with keynote speaker Dr. Wei Chu, Family Physician & Associate Chief of Staff, Georgetown Hospital, Halton Healthcare Services. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. at the Halton Hills Cultural Centres Gallery at 9 Church St. in Georgetown. The seminar will present information that balances the benefits and risks of immunization and help to clari- fy inaccuracies or misinformation surrounding immu- nizations and vaccinations. Vaccines offer good personal protection from dis- eases and also protect others, but it is important to know the facts about vaccinations to make good choices about your health, said Dr. Wei Chu.Parents should think about the medical advice not as one-size-fits-all, whether its for a vaccine or something else, they need to look at the benefits and risks before making an informed deci- sion. The seminar is part of the Living Healthy series of seminars offered by Halton Healthcare Services and is free and open to the public. If you are interested in attending, please call 905-873-0111, ext. 4379 or e-mail elittle@haltonhealthcare.on.ca to reserve your seat. Hospital presents immunization seminar, May 20 Georgetown resident Kieran McLoughlin received a sil- ver medal in a welding contest at a select skilled trades and technology competition at Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology earlier this month and qualified to take part in a province-wide event that was held on Tuesday. The 17-year-old McLoughlin, who is in the High Skills specialty manufacturing program at White Oaks Secondary School student in Oakville, advanced to the Ontario Technology Skills Competition May 5-7 at RIM Park and the Manulife Financial Sportsplex in Waterloo, but did not place there. Competitors at the Niagara College event were given blueprints and asked to assemble a six-inch box-type structure that had to be fitted, tacked and welded. Submitted photo Welding in silver
