Acton/Georgetown, Friday, May 23, 2008 21 SPORTS & LEISURE Andrew Best of Christ the Kings Jaguars puts out a Lester B. Pearson player at second base during their Halton high school baseball matchup this past week. Pearson scored two runs in their final at-bat to earn a 3-3 draw with the previously unbeaten Jags, who were beaten 11-0 by Richardson Division champion Notre Dame of Burlington on Tuesday. CtK and Georgetown finished both with 4-1-1 records and are scheduled to host an opening-round playoff game on Tuesday afternoon. As well, the Jaguars boys field lacrosse team has gone through the reg- ular season undefeated and will host Notre Dame in the Halton finals, likely on Wednesday, as the Jaguars attempt to avenge a loss to the Fighting Irish in last years championship. Teams from the Halton Hills Minor Lacrosse Association combined to earn one gold medal, four silver and two bronze at 2007 Ontario championships. The Rebels cruised to tournament victories in Uxbridge and Thornlea earlier in the season but didnt have a full lineup for the Ontario finals due to the long weekend. Setter Meghan Shantz also could- nt play her regular position because of a thumb injury, yet Georgetown was still able to knock off two pre- liminary pool winners in making it to the final. Ricky Davids took over the set- ters role and quite possibly earned a spot on next years University of Toronto varsity squad with his play, while Rebel teammate Chelsea Jensen had an outstanding tourna- ment with an 80 per cent kill rate. Other members of the team were: Lindsay McCabe, Katie Darling, Millar Galbraith, Matt Barker and Devin Rattie. TENNIS: Winners of the Halton junior boys doubles title last year as Grade 9s, Georgetowns Todd Bannerman and Matt Weber went 5- 0 at this weeks senior regional finals in Burlington to earn a berth in the OFSAA tourney at the Rexall Centre in Toronto June 2-3. Georgetowns Luke Ovenden shot a tournament-low round of even-par 72 in the second and final round of a Canadian Junior Golf Association event in Hamilton this past weekend, yet still came up one shot back of the leader. The 17-year-old Ovenden was five strokes back of Burlingtons David Olejnik heading into Sundays play and nearly overcame an opening-round 79 to claim victory in the boys 17-19 division for the Mizuno NAC qualifier at the Willow Valley Golf Club. Adam Putnam of Georgetown placed in a tie for 11th after shooting 93-76, finishing at +25 in the boys 14-16 age group. At the CJGA Jr. Worlds Qualifying Series tourney in Stouffville on Sunday, Nicklau Naumovski of Halton Hills turned in a nine-hole score of eight-over- par 39 in the boys 8 & under category to earn a tie for fourth spot. Callum Biehn finished up tied for seventh in the boys 11-12 division after a +13 score of 75 at the Rolling Hills Golf Club. Ovenden nearly rallies for winYoure out!
