Denuzzo helped a victim of a stabbing, and also tried to prevent the culprits from escaping on Jan. 26 in Georgetown. Photo by Daniel Ho Karen Denuzzo is a brave woman. The Georgetown resident was honoured last week for her bravery with the Halton Regional Police Services Chiefs Commendation at the Halton Regional Police Services annual awards ceremony. On Jan. 26 at 2:45 p.m., Denuzzo was dri- ving her vehicle on Main Street South in Georgetown. As she passed Cedarvale Park, she saw a disturbance in the park involving a large group of young people. Hoping to defuse the disturbance with an adult presence, she approached the youths, and drawing closer realized that one of them had been stabbed. She then learned that the possible culprits in the assault were trying to leave the park in a vehicle. Thinking on her feet, she quickly posi- tioned her own vehicle across the path of the fleeing vehicle. Then, without fear for her own safety, she ordered the occupants out of their car. Denuzzos attention was then drawn to the injury the youth had received. As a medical professional, she realized all her attention needed to go to the injured boy. As the suspects made their escape she ordered the other youths at the scene to memo- rize the vehicles licence plate, then provided the youth with medical aid and transported him to hospital. Denuzzo was honoured with a presentation from Halton Regional Police Services Chief Gary Crowell and Police Services Board Chair Bob Maich. The ceremony, which honoured several other members of the public for their brave acts, was held at Halton Regional Police Headquarters in Oakville. Police honour local woman for act of bravery at park
