Mary Christopher, of Poplar Ave. in Acton, said her son, Pte. Anthony Price, 22, suffered shrapnel injuries under his arm and on his back in the explosion shortly after 12:15 p.m. All the injured soldiers were air- lifted to Kandahar Airfields Role 3 multi-national medical unit. An Afghan interpreter was also wound- ed, and later transferred to an Afghan army hospital where he was reported in good condition. Price and the other soldiers were on foot when the device exploded. Its unclear whether a soldier stepped on the device or whether it was remotely detonated. Price and another soldier were seriously injured and another soldier was very seriously injured. One of the soldiers was transferred to an American military hospital in Germany. Christopher said her son called about 7:30 a.m. (EDT) Monday and said, he had all his parts and he could see. He was the least hurt of all of them, Christopher said, who has worried about her sons safety since he went to Afghanistan in February. Shes spoken to him several times since receiving the ini- tial call and, hes doing good and (is) in good spirits. She said, while she wants her son to come home, he plans to stay in Afghanistan following his recovery. He was raised in Acton, attending Acton High School, M. Z. Bennett, and Robert Little Schools and joined the military just before he turned 19. He is with the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton. The explosion that injured Price was one of two nearly simultaneous incidents in Zhari District in Kandahar Province in which Canadian soldiers were wounded Monday. Tuesday a Canadian soldier was killed in a gun battle in Panjwayi District in southern Afghanistan.
