The man is believed to be living in the Halton/Hamilton area, and police have released photos of him to the media. Police say on Thursday, May 15 a man approached two people at Georgetown Market Place and said he was stranded in Georgetown with no means to get back to Hamilton. He produced a cheque for an undis- closed amount and convinced one of the people to deposit the cheque into their personal account, then withdraw the money immediately from the account. The victim later learned that the cheque was not valid. The suspect identified himself to the pair as Jason Macontosz. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-878-5511 ext. 2114 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477). A telephone inquiry to a Georgetown home Sunday evening led to police responding to the address for a domestic incident. Police say at about 6:45 a man called the house regarding a newspaper classified ad. The woman who answered the phone gave him the address and asked him to call 911, which he did. Police responded and found that a woman had been assaulted by her male partner. She received minor injuries. Charged with assault is a 38-year- old California man. Police do not release the names of accused persons involved in domestic incidents to protect the identity of the victims. Two Georgetown youths have been charged in connection with a break and enter at Centennial School on Delrex Blvd. Saturday evening. Police responded to an alarm at the school at about 8:35 p.m. When they arrived, they saw two males in the school who fled on foot. Police chased the two males, arresting them a short time later. A window was broken in the school and police say someone had defecated in the auditorium. A 16-year-old male, and 15-year-old male, both from Georgetown, have been charged with break and enter. Halton Police are investigating the theft of 150 cans of condensed milk from the A&P store on Sinclair Ave. Friday. Police say someone left the store without paying for the $300 worth of milk and an employee who was out- side the store saw the milk being loaded into a vehicle. The employee got the licence plate number and the vehicle was last seen driving eastbound on Guelph St. There were possibly four people in the vehicle. One female was wearing light-coloured clothing. A Georgetown man is facing charges after an incident at the McGibbon Hotel early Saturday morn- ing. Police were called to the hotel for a disturbance and when they arrived and attempted to speak to an intoxicated man he swore and yelled at them. Officers attempted to arrest the man for causing a disturbance, but he resist- ed arrest, kicking, striking, head butting and attempting to bite them. Charged with resist arrest and two counts of assault police is Tyler Longhurst, 19, of Robert Lane. The officers were not seriously injured. During the incident other officers were called to the hotel because the crowd was getting hostile towards police. Officers charged a man with being intoxicated in a public place. Charged is Colin Irwin, 20, of Eighth Line. A camera, guitar and antique lantern were stolen during a break and enter into an antique store on Main St., Georgetown sometime late Saturday or early Sunday. Entry was gained through a window. Police say someone attempted to break in to the Canadian Gas Bar on Hornby Rd. by prying open the door on the kiosk sometime late Saturday or early Sunday. Damage was $50. Cash was taken during a break and enter at Loris Fish & Chips on Guelph St. sometime last Monday or Tuesday. Entry was gained through a forced rear door. Sunglasses and a portable DVD player were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked at a Niagara Trail resi- dence sometime late Friday or early Saturday. Fire caused $800 damage to a porta potty in the Dominion Gardens park at Guelph St. and Maple Ave. early Monday morning. Fire burned the rear wall of the structure. Halton Hills Firefighters were called to a Bower St. residence in Acton last Saturday morning for a garage fire. When they arrived the roof and walls had already fallen to the ground and sections of the fence and brush around the garage, including some trees, were also on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. A child stuck in a swing brought firefighters out to Wallace St. and Doctor Moore Cr. area of Acton last Saturday afternoon (June 7). Firefighters used a reciprocating saw to cut away a portion of the swing to free the 10-year-old boy who was wedged in a toddler swing. Landscape Ontario has partnered with a recycling company, Re-Source Ontario of Toronto, in hosting a pilot project to divert thousands of pounds of plastic pots, trays, tags and greenhouse film from the local landfills. Many municipal recycling programs do not accept this material. All this week (until Friday), four large containers will be located at the Milton office of Landscape Ontario and residents are encouraged to drop off their used horticultural plastic during business hours at 7856 Fifth Line, just south of Steeles Ave. Recycle those flower trays
