The 16-year-old Swartz was tied for first with Georgetown South resident Samantha Spencer and Woodbridges Adrienne DAlessio with a score of 47 after the opening nine holes. Swartz carded an 84 on Sunday to win the tourney at +23, while the 12-year-old Spencer shot a 94 to place third. Ballinafads Marcus Rees, 16, finished in a tie for ninth place in the boys 14-16 division with a 27-hole total of 14 over par. Mitchell Downton of Georgetown was 25th in that age group. Spencer, who qualified to play in the International Junior Golf Tours Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Fla. last month, also earned a berth in the Canadian Optimist Junior Golf Championships Aug. 11-13 at Ingersoll, Ont. thanks to her play earlier this week. She shot an 88 at the Central Ontario qualifier Monday at the Caledon Country Club to place second in the girls division, four shots back of 16-year-old Bhanisha Nagindas of Brampton. Grade 10 students Sarah Hickman and Chris King were named Christ the Kings junior athletes of the year at the Georgetown Catholic secondary schools recent awards ceremony. Hickman was named MVP for junior girls basketball and volleyball and also played for the Jaguar soccer and badminton teams. King was a standout for the CtK football, basketball and soccer squads.
