The Centre will be closed for that day. The Tuesday evening barbecue was a great success, and the weather even cooperated while we cooked the hamburgers and sausages. Everyone enjoyed the variety of salads, and the band, Yuz 3 Guys, had everyone either dancing or at least tapping their toes to familiar melodies. The numerous door prizes were won by May Hoare, Grace Graham, Marg Spear, John Ashworth, Thora Jespersen, Joan Morris, Carmen Bissonnette, Harry Van Der Heyden, Pat Frizzell and Lorraine Fox. The 50/50 was won by Rhona Thornhill. Very successful evening! All the board members helped with preparing the food before and cooking, plus serving. The social committee got a well-earned break. Stephanie Frances, our administrative assistant and Wendy Krever, our Centres co- ordinator helped arrange things and ran the very successful ice cream Sundae bar. There might have been only six people at Mondays Carpet Bowling, but they all enjoyed the afternoon. Siena Anckers Brown team beat Betty Blains Black team, 16-12. At the Evening Euchre, Henry Wedge held the lone hands. High Man was Betty Green; High Lady was Lydia Dyball and the Booby went to Stella Brunelle. The next Evening Euchre will be on Wednesday, July 16 at 7 p.m. At Thursday afternoons Bid Euchre Ruth Burk held the only mooner. Too hot to prepare lunch? Dont forget we always have a delicious lunch every Friday in the nice air-conditioned Centre. The only stipu- lation is you must be a member and sign up by Wednesday, so the cooks know how much food to prepare. Last Friday was mystery lunch day, and they started with a fresh salad, followed by pork chops, roast potatoes, veg and buns, and for dessert, lemon or key lime pie and fresh fruit. A great lunch for $6. This Friday (June 27), will be soup and sand- wiches and the week following, potluck. If pos- sible, try and get potluck food here by 11:30 a.m. to the kitchen knows if they need to pur- chase additional items. Havent picked up your new newsletter yet? Drop in and pick one up and you will be able to tell what is being served. Following the lunch we have Bingo. Thinking of the heat, on Tuesdays during July and August, we will have a coffee morning, a great way to spend a couple of hours cooling off and meeting friends. Maybe at the same time people might enjoy playing pool. I am afraid we have a bad habit of putting things on the table, but we promise to keep it clear if anyone wishes to play. During July and August if you are not a member and are wondering what we have that might interest you, we offer complimentary membership. Just drop in and the person at the desk will be happy to give you one. In September we start pro-rating the membership for the remainder of the year, plus 2009. There was just over $150 in the 50/50 pot and Renate Staufenberger was the lucky lady whose name was drawn. JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Extendicare-Halton Hills personal support worker Katie Nicholson was among the several employ- ees who were recognized for five years service at the seniors retirement and nursing facility on Lindsay Crt., by Extendicare administrator Andrpekkens.
