(905) 877-6639 Sponsor: 8 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 Halton Hills council agreed, in confidential discussion, at its meeting Monday night to look into hiring an industrial heritage expert related to the Barber Mill property. The matter is related to the Towns decision last year to designate the property, and the subse- quent appeal to the Conservation Review Board (CRB) by property owner Victor Boutin of Everlast Restoration Inc. While Boutin had indi- cated in a letter to the Town last year that he was withdrawing his application to build a combined hotel/commercial operation and condominium on the site located on River Rd. in Georgetown, he did not withdraw his appeal of the designa- tion, said the Towns Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Perlin, on Tuesday. Barber Mill is considered by the Towns Heritage Halton Hills to be an excellent example of a late 19th Century industrial complex and is a prominent local landmark. A CRB prehearing occurred last October, and a new hearing date has not yet been scheduled but an expert may be required once it is, said Perlin. According to the Town resolution, voted on in open council, the expert hiring is dependent on if Towns legal team deems it necessary. The expert would complement the services of the heritage conservation expert already retained by the Town. The $5,000 cost will come from the Towns corporate legal account. Further direction to staff remained confiden- tial. By Cynthia Gamble, staff writer Second expert may be hired to study Barber Mill
