Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, August 13, 2008 7 After an in-camera discussion at Monday nights council meeting, Halton Hills council directed its plan- ning staff to waive fees for a minor variance application to be submitted by The Carpet Palace. The waiver will be given if The Carpet Palace co- operate and comply with the intent of a council resolu- tion at its July meeting. That resolution called on the company to rebuild its store on its current footprint with minor adjustments as per the Norval Secondary Plan (which prefers storefronts to be close to the street). In May, The Carpet Palace had applied for, but was denied, a minor variance application to build its store towards the back of the lot at the corner of Guelph and Adamson Sts. in Norval. The Carpet Palace appealed that decision to the Ontario Municipal Board but the compa- ny requested the August 28 hearing date be adjourned while they and the Town continue discussions. The OMB has been made aware of the ongoing discus- sions, said Town Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Perlin yesterday (Tuesday). Monday nights council resolution stated a favourable decision of a minor variance application for the Committee of Adjustment will lead to an early reso- lution of an appeal by the owner to the decision by Committee of Adjustment before the OMB... The Carpet Palace is on the agenda of the Committee of Adjustments Sept. 3 meeting.
