46 Guelph Street, Georgetown 905-877-4471 Proudly "Fred's Towing " has been serving Halton Hills for 50 years. Established in 1958 by founder Mr. Fred Tolton, recently passed away, Fred, his wife Marg and children Debbie and Brenda spent most of their lives building this business. Rob and Cathi Arsenault, family and staff of Fred's continue to carry on the same beliefs and commitment to service that Mr. Tolton had a strong conviction for. Fred was a firm believer in promoting business within the community and giving back to the community. Fred and his family not only accomplished starting a successful towing company, they have made a positive impact to the towing industry. In the 43 years that Fred ran this business he refused to become, what the industry calls "vultures". He insisted that his company would provide Emergency Roadside Assistance and NOT take advantage of people charging outrageous prices for towing and storage. Fred and his family took the high road of doing the RIGHT THING verses the more profitable and morally corrupt road. We hope to see you at our CELEBRATION on Saturday, August 23rd, 2008 11 am - 4 pm at the Georgetown Market Place. Bring an empty tummy, a big smile and take the opportunity to help raise money for CASHh through the sale of t-shirts and a "penny table" filled with donations from companies we often work with. All proceeds raised will go to CASHh (Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills) an organization that is here for families in Halton Hills to support them through a difficult time, as expressed by the Tolton Family many times, they were grateful to have them. You not only risk your life when you drink and drive, you also risk losing your license, incurring expensive fines, doing time in jail or even causing injury or death to an inno- cent bystander. With all these conse- quences facing you, driving under the influence is the worst decision you can make. Dont take chances with drinking and driving; theres always a bet- ter alternative. Acton/Georgetown, Friday, August 15, 2008 15 I hope you are enjoying your summer. For the most part, this has been a wet one. It is supposed to be a drier August we can only hope. School kids are still out, so motorists, be on your guard. Parents, encourage your kids to be active as child obesity is on the rise at an alarming rate, as is diabetes. Limit your kids time on those darn computers! Remember, if you go hiking in the woods, dress accordingly. There are ticks in this area that may transmit Lyme disease. Local businessman and Lyme disease awareness advocate, Keith Poulous, is living proof these nasty ticks exist here. Fairy Lake, located in Prospect Park in Acton, is a man-made lake that was deeded to the Town a dozen years ago. Almost every day in the early morning I take a walk through the park with my pooch. This time of year, you can see something new every day anything from the early morn- ing mist to large fish jumping out of the water, snapping turtles, Canada geese, etc., and the lake looks spectacular. Unfortunately, as the scorching summer days roll around, the lake may not look as healthy. The shoreline recedes and weeds clog up certain areas. Presently, the Town is engaged in a Fairy Lake water quality study. This study will have many goals, including: Development of a long-term strategy to improve water quality Weed management Appropriate controls for water fowl Communications plan to improve public awareness and promoting good stewardship We look forward to seeing the studys results. The new lighted soccer pitch in Acton is now officially open thanks to the $100,000 donation from the Acton Soccer Association. Work is also under way on constructing a new baseball diamond in the Trafalgar Sports Park. Again, kudos go out to the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League for their generous donation of $100,000 which helped bring this capital project forward. Congratulations to Goebelle McAdam Alexander on its 40th anniversary June 23, and to Anthea Hoare, the 2008 Citizen of the Year for Glen Williams. Thank you Anthea for your tire- less hours of volunteer work. Speaking of the Glen, thank you to all of the volunteers who gave the Town of Halton Hills another successful Canada Day celebration. Also to the Acton BIA which provided concerts in Prospect Park, followed by a spectacular fire- works display thanks to the Acton Firefighters Association.
