At the same time there was a bulletin from the Ontario Veterinarian Medical Association, pointing out that most fire departments have no equipment to deal with pets suffering from smoke inhalation, so she decided to donate two sets of small animal oxygen masks to Halton Hills Fire Protection & Prevention Services, along with laminated info sheets so firefighters can administer the correct oxygen rates to the pets. On hand to accept the masks were firefighters Kevin Usher (left) and Jay Norton, who was on the scene at the May 31 fire when the pets were rescued. Although firefighters first responsibility is to save human lives, if pets are rescued, they now have the equipment to deal with them. Photo by Ted Brown Pet oxygen masks donated to fire dept.
