A spokesperson for Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services said the Fire Marshals office was called in to investigate the fire, at the time deemed suspi- cious because no one had been home since Friday evening. He said due to the extent of the fire in the home, investigators could not determine a burn pattern or pin- point exactly where the fire started. They did determine, however, it started at the rear of the home. The spokesperson said the inves- tigation is ongoing, but arson is not suspected and the fire is no longer considered suspicious. Damage is estimated at about $200,000. Waller said the family lost every- thing except for the items they had taken with them to their cottage. Also, f iref ighters were able to retrieve her wedding rings and the couples marriage certificate was also recovered. Waller said while the family was sifting through the charred remains of their home she was surprised to find one of her childrens bibles that had been on an upper shelf lying open on a dresser. The book was nearly completely burned except for the page it was open to, revealing a Family Prayer. I did my crying yesterday, said Waller on Monday, who has decid- ed to adopt a positive attitude about the tragedy. Its a new adventure. She is grateful to the passerby that noticed the f ire and approached the home to ensure that no one was home. She added, all the generosity from people has been overwhelm- ing, and she thanks the many peo- ple who have already offered to help with donations, etc. The family had insurance but is in need of a place to live, furniture, clothing, toys, and household items. They are going to be needing to rent a place. They dont even have a kitchen table, they have three little kids who need beds, said Klutt. They are good people who do a lot for others, Klutt added. Anyone interested in making a monetary donation can do so at Scotiabank. Donations of furniture, toys, clothing, etc, and offers of trailers or homes (preferably in the rural area to accommodate Simon Wallers truck) can be made by call- ing Klutt at 905-693-9288 or 416- 518-3387.
