Photo by Jon Borgstrom In the off-season before the 2007 campaign, Hill endured two separate surgeries to repair his elbow and shoulder. Last year, Hill was the teams most successful pitcher, with an earned run average under 3.00 through his first eight starts, before injuries forced him to shut down after his last start on Sept. 21. This off-season, Hill had surgery on his throw- ing elbow to release the radial nerve, which caused much of the pain during the season. In a dozen games this year, Hill managed a record of just 1-5, with three quality starts. In 57.2 innings, he gave up 63 hits and struck out 39. His earned run average was 5.83 for the last- place team with a 49-85 mark. Even when he was playing little league, Hill was oft-injured. He remembers playing an impor- tant game with a cast on his broken leg. Unable to pitch, he took his spot at first base and batted ninth.
