The 18-year-old male driver and his 19- year-old passenger, also from Georgetown, were on their way to classes at York University when their southbound Toyota Celica lost control on the Eighth Line between 5 and 10 Sideroads at around 6:40 a.m. and smashed into a hydro pole and a tree. The preliminary indication is that they were racing with another vehicle, and the other vehicle fled the scene, said Halton Regional Police Detective Const. Paul Davies. The 18-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital. The passenenger was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital. Police are looking for any witnesses to the crash or with any information about an older model silver sports car, possibly a Dodge or Plymouth product, last seen traveling south on Eighth Line south of 10 Sideroad. They can call 905-878-5511 ext. 2381. The Eighth Line was closed for approxi- mately seven hours and hydro service was cut to nearby homes for most of the day until crews could install a new pole and reconnect power.
