DONT GAMBLE WITH YOUR LIFE 12 Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, September 12, 2007 An off-duty Peel Regional Police officer from Georgetown was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident after a sin- gle-vehicle rollover early Thursday that sent a passenger to hospital. Halton Regional Police responded to a call at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Derry Rd., west of the Sixth Line, and found an injured man in the passenger seat of a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier. Officers determined the dri- ver had left the scene. A preliminary investigation indicated the Cavalier was eastbound on Derry Rd. when it entered the curve just west of the Sixth Line and skidded off the roadway into the north ditch, rolling several times before coming to rest 57 metres from where it left the road. The 30-year-old injured male passenger was taken to Milton District Hospital and treated for a concussion along with other minor injuries. Police attempted to contact the registered owner of the vehicle for several hours until he arrived at the hospital around noon on Thursday to be treated for minor injuries as officers were speaking with the injured pas- senger. Charged is Justin Vandenbrink, 25, of Georgetown. He will appear in Milton Court on Oct. 15. Vandenbrink has worked as a patrol officer at Division 12 of the Peel Regional Police for five years. He has been suspended from duty. Anyone with information related to the accident is asked to call the Milton Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777.
