For a more natural smile, Give us a call! Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, September 12, 2007 7 A few years ago, many of you may recall our town was faced with a real crisis with respect to our hospital. We had people throughout our community of Halton Hills up in arms. We won a huge vic- tory. Since then, our hospital has been renamed Georgetown Hospital instead of a campus. It is now part of Halton Healthcare Services, which is connected to the Milton and Oakville Hospitals. The purpose of me telling you this is to tell you about a hard-working group in our com- munity who has been there through thick and thin working for our hospital. This local citi- zens group is the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. So far this year they have raised more than $100,000. With new obstetricians recruited for the hospital this year, additional gynecological equipment is required to meet the growing number of births we can expect in the coming months. They still have a long way to go because a lot of the equipment is not funded by the Ministry of Health. It will be up to our community to fund these tools for our home- town hospital. Please consider donations to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. Speaking of donations, the Georgetown Canadian Tire donated $50,000 for newborn and family care at our hospital. Way to go! Hey, do you want to win a car and still sup- port our hospital? By purchasing a ticket for $10 you can have a chance to win a Toyota Yaris, courtesy of Georgetown Toyota. Tickets are on sale at Georgetown Market Place. You may also purchase tickets this week- end at the Acton Fall Fair. The draw is to be held Sunday, September 16. Time is running out. There is no shortage of yellow jackets (bees) this time of year. That means summer is over and it is fall fair season. A special thanks to all our volunteers involved with both the Georgetown and Acton Fall Fairs. On September 8, Councillor Clark Somerville and I went to a neighbourhood working bee. The neighbours in the Danville- Wallace area of Acton got together with their kids and constructed bird houses, as well as planted trees and shrubs along the trail. This was excellent community spirit, and what makes our small town so great. In the oops department, I made a big goof. In my last column, I had mentioned that the Georgetown Soccer Association, in conjunction with the Georgetown Baseball Association, donated more than $5,000 for improvements to Diamond No. 1 in the Gellert Community Park. My sincere apologies, it was the Georgetown Slo-Pitch League which participat- ed with the Georgetown Baseball Association. On behalf of council, I welcome the follow- ing new business to Georgetown: Main Street Perk Keeping it real!
