Photo by Eamonn Maher Georgetowns Eagle Ridge Golf Club played host to a two-round Canadian Junior Golf Association Fall Series event last weekend and a couple of North Halton club mem- bers picked up top-five results in their respective age groups. Ryan Thomson, 16, looked poised for a late charge but a couple of dou- ble bogeys on the back nine of the second round scuttled any chances of victory as he placed tied for third overall at +11, three shots behind the boys 14-16 champion from the Netherlands. Eleven-year-old Samantha Spencer of Georgetown South com- peted against some high school seniors in the open girls divi- sion, which was her first-ever CJGA junior tour- ney, yet she was fourth out of eight golfers after rounds of 101-99. Also in the boys 14-16 category, Josh Hale of Georgetown was 17th at +27 and Actons Andrew Tressell fin- ished 26th at +34. In contention until the final few holes, Georgetown resident Mary Ann Lapointe had to settle for fifth place overall and top amateur hon- ours at the 2007 CN Canadian Womens Tour Championship at the Club de Golf Royal Quebec last week, three shots back of the winner. Lapointe, the recent Canadian Golf Hall of Fame inductee, started off the 54-hole event in Boischatel, Que. with a 79, but got back into the lead pack after shooting a two- under-par 70 last Thursday. A third and final round of 75 fell just short of eventual champ Walailak Satarak of Bangkok, Thailand, who finished up with a 71.
