On Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the third annual Knit for the Cure gets underway for a two-day marathon of knitting or crocheting chemo hats to be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Knitters are also collecting pledges with all monies raised going to the Foundation. They will also take part in workshops, share hints and tips and much more. Throughout the month until Oct. 21, Georgetown Yarn and Crafts is also holding a silent auction in the shop with many items donated by local businesses, suppliers, customers and friends. Anyone in the community is welcome to come in and place a bid or just to make a donation to Knit for the Cure. Georgetown Yarn and Crafts is located at 170 Guelph St. Knit for a Cure returns for its third year A Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Certification Course will be held over two days Sunday, October 14 and Sunday, October 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oxford Learning Centre, 324 Guelph St, Georgetown. This is a full CPR/AED certification course, includes infant, child and adult CPR- levelC, con- scious and unconscious choking. You will learn basic first aid for cuts, scrapes, wounds, fractures, strains, sprains, impaled objects, nosebleeds, and allergies, epipens. Signs and symptoms of sudden medical con- ditions such as stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrest, diabetes, frostbite, hypothermia, and much more. This is taught in a learner-centered environ- ment. Mandatory attendance is required on both days. Cost of the course, which includes a first aid manual and certification card is $110. Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis.
