Acton/Georgetown, Friday, October 12, 2007 15 YOU AND YOUR PET Michaela, our much loved friend and Georgetown Thrift Shop mascot passed away suddenly in August. She was a special girl with a wise and gen- tle soul, and she touched many peo- ples hearts. When I adopted Michaela from Guelph Humane Society, as a stray, she hadnt known the better side of human beings. She had a large lump on her chest and her teeth had been worn and broken, likely from being kept tied on a metal chain. She need- ed two surgeries at the Humane Society before adoption. When I first got her home, she cringed, fearing she would be punished for coming inside. During recent x-rays that were done, it was also discovered that she had been shot in the pastshe had four shotgun pellets in her. In the 23 months I had her she has known only love and kindness from everyone. At the Thrift Shop, she just thrived on all the attention and affec- tion. How she loved to wait patiently at the back room doorway for a new customer to discover her, and exclaim What a beautiful dog !. Michaela would just beam with hap- p i n e s s . She soon got to know her regular fans, and her face would light up when she heard their voices. She adored being the centre of attention at her photo shoots, and rejoiced in finding that her talent and charisma had finally been discovered. I know I can speak on Michaelas behalf and say thank you to everyone who gave her the love and affection she so richly deserved. Please know that it was returned many times over. Peggy, Thrift Shop volunteer To see more pictures of Michaela advertising the great finds at the Thrift Shop go to www.uppercredit.com and link to Thrift Shop ...She will be sorely missed by everyone who met her. Stamps for strays Strays.ca is raising money to help animals by buy- ing and selling collectible postage stamps. In the last few months they have raised enough money to pay for Cats Anonymous to spay/neuter and vaccinate 50 feral cats, and have just committed to help Animal Alliances Project Jessie rescue 100 dogs from pound seizure (being used in experimental labs). Many people have stamp collections they have inherited and do not know what to do with. For those that want to sell them, Strays.ca buys them at fair market value, breaks them down, and sells them to collectors all over the globe. Those that wish to donate stamps receive a charitable tax receipt for the full selling price. All profits go to help stray animals. Those wishing to help by selling, donating or buying stamps are asked to visit : www.strays.ca .
