The event will include schools located in Milton and Halton Hills and will run from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (program begins at 10 a.m.) at the Regional Banquet Hall, Milton Sports Centre, 605 Santa Maria Blvd., Milton. The event will feature displays of environ- mental education projects and activities involv- ing Haltons elementary and secondary school students. Many of these students have been using Ontario EcoSchools resources to learn about ecology and the environment, reduce waste, conserve energy, and create and main- tain green spaces. A previous event was held earlier this month for schools in Oakville and Burlington. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are coming to Acton in search of people from all walks of life interested in a career in polic- ing. The RCMP will host a career presentation Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Employment Centre, 45 Mill St. in which a local RCMP member will discuss the oppor- tunities in a policing career, outline the recruiting process step-by-step, provide advice and answer questions. The RCMP plans to train up to 2,000 cadets each year for the next few years. To apply to the RCMP, you must be a Canadian citizen, 19 years or older (you may begin the application process at 18), be of good character, proficient in English or French and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also possess a valid Canadian driver s l icence and meet medical/health standards. The RCMP is looking for people who are responsible, respectful, professional, com- passionate, honest and have integrity. Once training is successfully completed, a new member will be posted to any one of the 750 detachments across the country.
