The co-operative nursery school located in the Cedarvale Community Centre in Cedarvale Park was established in 1967 by a group of interested parents as a non-profi t organizat ion to provide a qual i ty preschool experience for their children. Maple Nursery School is a place where parents and children go to school together. Everyone has some- thing to learn; everyone has something to teach. A primary aim at Maple is to provide an enjoyable learning experience for your child a place where your child can grow and create at his/her own level and in his/her own time. One important mandate is to involve parents in their childs education. Without parent participation there would be no school. So another goal is to pro- vide a worthwhile parent education program so they can enjoy and benefit from the experience in the school. Parent involvement is also achieved through parent participation in the classroom environment and through a parent-run board of directors who ultimate- ly run the school. Maple Nursery School employs a staff of three teachers who are fully trained and certified in Early Childhood Education and one Teachers Assistant. Each class consists of 12 children, one ECE teacher and one duty parent, assigned on a rotational basis. This makes the adult to child ratios 1:6. These ratios create an exceptional preschool experience for our children. Morning programs at Maple Nursery School run from 911:30 a.m. and an afternoon program which runs from 13:30 p.m. The programs offer a nutri- tious snack including a drink which is provided by parents on a rotational basis. Children at Maple Nursery School spend time each day in our playroom, creative room, gym or outdoors (when weather permits). The types of play at Maple include: block building; painting; playdough and clay; water play and sandbox; music; dramatic play; language communication; table toys; cutting and past- ing; finger painting; science and social studies; play and socialization; gross and fine motor skill develop- ment .
