Chelsea DeForest, 12, of Eighth Line, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after being ejected from the rear seat of a 1993 Honda Civic driven by a relative. H a l i b u r t o n Highlands OPP say the accident occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday on Hwy. 118, about 20 km east of Brace- bridge, when the west- bound Civic driven by David Mayes, 31, of Milton, crossed over into the eastbound lane then struck a rock face on the south side of the road. The car came back across the highway where it struck another rock face on the north side of the road. Chelseas brother, Cody DeForest, 13, also of Georgetown, was injured in the accident. He was taken to Minden Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and released. On Monday, a police spokesperson said road conditions were dry at the time of the accident and it hadnt been determined if Chelsea was wearing a seatbelt. Mayes is facing charges of dangerous dri- ving causing death, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He was released on bail in Lindsay court Tuesday. Mayes is to be back in court Nov. 7. Chelseas father, John DeForest of Orangeville, said his daughter was returning home from her mother Yvonne McColls cot- tage when the accident happened.
