Carol Beauchamp, Georgetown Little Theatres vice-president is the elegantly exuberant Ruella Welles. Shes the moral underpinning of the play, shes the glue, says Beauchamp. Theatre acting wasnt on her agenda when she began over 20 years ago. I was into ath- letics and punk rock music. Ruella and the dominatrix bond in their mission to stop Julian from carrying out his wicked plans. Theyre aided by the hotel detective Harold Palmer who longs to escape his working poor beginnings. Sam Hancock plays the hotel detective who contributes great one-liners and is the odd man out. Hancock is a theatre director and writer with a degree from the University of Guelph in Theatre Arts and has garnered awards for his works. The need to get involved in a community project and act like a teenager is the cause of Robert Pearces stage debut as Reece Welles. His teenage son is a member of Georgetown Little Theatres Youth Company. I saw the challenge, was inspired by my son, how much he enjoys it and that intrigued me, says Pearce. Behind Communicating Doors is stage manager Virginia Bancur whos an experi- enced director, producer and stage manager for the past 40 years. She picked the play for its technical challenges and because its an exciting play and its a little different than what we usually do. Mike Butterworth is the director and he would like you to see the play because its thrilling, mysterious with traces of human life and fallibility. It can show that somebody who thinks they got nothing going for them can come out on top. Butterworth also selected the play because he loves Alan Ayckbourns writing. Communicating Doors is featured at the John Elliot Theatre, 9 Church St., in down- town Georgetown on November 8-10 and 14- 17 at 8 p.m. Reserve tickets at the box office; 905-877- 3700 or visit www.georgetownlittletheatre.ca for more information and to buy tickets on line.
