Every week or so, another shipment of books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks or magazines arrives and we lucky staff members get to have a bit of a browse before we put everything out on the shelves. We know there are probably lots of other book enthusiasts out there who would love to have this kind of privilege. Well, now you can! The Halton Hills Public Library is launching a new program this month. We call it Coffee, Books and Conversation. We have set aside an hour each month when anyone interested can come and enjoy some refreshments with us while you browse some of our newest materials and join us for a book talk and some friendly chat. Our first session will be held on Friday, November 30, from 2 to 3 p.m. There will be sessions at both the Georgetown and Acton branches. We are asking participants to register in advance. You can register at any library service desk or phone 905-873- 2681 for the Georgetown session or 519-853-0301 for the Acton session. All of the new items you see at the session will be available for you to borrow, and we will extend the due date for you to the date of the next session. Speaking of new books... have you ever been frustrat- ed by long waiting lists for your favourite bestsellers? If so, then check out our new Rapid Reads Collection. Rapid Reads are extra copies of best-selling books that are available to borrow directly from the library display shelves. These special copies can be borrowed for seven days only, with no renewals. They cannot be reserved and regular fines apply. We will continue to have regular copies of bestsellers that you can reserve. So take some time to come to your local library and see whats new!
