Treasurer Ed DeSousa is expected to make a presentation on the 2008 capi- tal budget and nine-year forecast (2009-2017). He will be followed by public delegations involving both the capital and operating budget. On the agenda, as of press time, is Mark Rowe, chair of Heritage Halton Hills, who will discuss the Heritage Property Tax Relief program at a cost $8,300. DeSousa will recommend a $9.97 million capital budget and a $111 mil- lion capital forecast. Seven projects represent 54 per cent of the capital budget: $1.65 million pavement manage- ment on various roads in Acton, including Kingham Rd., Storey Ave., Church St. and Acton Blvd. $950,000 Glen bridge rehabilita- tion $630,000 Dominion Gardens Park (phase 2) $618,000 Dominion Gardens splash pad $605,000, 10 Sideroad boulevard and streetlights $561,000, Acton Community Sports Park (phase 2) $391,000, public works equip- ment replacement. Among the list of 70 items included in the 2008 capital budget are: Dick Licata Pool demolition, Fairgrounds sports field lighting replacement, fair- grounds bleachers, traffic signal instal- lations on Mountainview Rd. at Armstrong Ave. and on Guelph St. at Main St. N.; resurfacing of tennis courts in Acton and Georgetown, park improvements in Acton and Georgetown, and a transportation mas- ter plan update. Extras that departments have requested include: $21,000 in the Recreation and Parks Department budget to imple- ment the Georgetown Horticultural Society proposal for allotment gardens in Dominion Gardens Park. The library board is requesting, due to the delay of the expansion of the Georgetown library branch, a number of items to make the wait more palat- able for both patrons and staff includ- ing $140,800 for Monday openings at the Georgetown branch; $150,000 for furnishings/equipment replace- ment; $24,600 to create quiet reading areas in the Gallery; $6,500 to upgrade 50 Market St. for administration space, $16,000-$20,000 on a feasibility study for a library fundraising campaign and $90,000 for a fund development co- ordinator. This is also the first year that the capital budget and operating budget have been approved separately. Discussion dates for the 2008 oper- ating budget are January 6, 14 and 15.
