Dudley rallied to say these few words... Yes, you have seen me before. I am Dudley, a two- year-old beagle, weighing in at about 35 lbs, handsome, kind and loving in residence since March, surely (nice as they are) this is not meant to be home forever. I under- stood from my Mum that people love dogs, are patient with them when they are not perfect, and will help them overcome any perceived flaws... where are those people? I certainly have not been lucky enough to find them. Please Beagle-loving people come and give me a chance! As I said I have been here since March and the days are so long! I was adopted for a month but the family felt they did not have the time to persevere with me and I was getting confusing signals of what was needed, felt their frustration which made me even more nervous and as I did not understand quickly enough, they returned me leaving me even more confused and lacking in self esteem. My caregivers tell me I am the quintessential beagle (whatever that means... hope its good), with a basically happy, bouncy personality. I am described as cute, very affectionate, live for my food and possess excellent track- ing abilities. Surely there are fun things a family and I could do together where I could demonstrate my tracking ability. Stimulation is a must for me, or my little brain becomes bored and my intelligence severely dimmed. I think that if I was given a new chance my problem with housebreaking while settling into a new environ- ment could be overcome once the stress was less- ened; trust was built and I knew the family would not take me back here...I do not have any housebreaking problems in the UCHS because (oh woe is me) it has almost become my home. I am whining for a patient family who will establish a routine for me and make sure I am given frequent opportu- nities to establish outside bathroom routines. This has to be a team effort with praise for my successes but nobody in the past has loved me enough to help me smell the sweet smell of success, or the fun of basic training. In many ways I am like a blank slate... waiting to be written on. I will need a fenced yard to keep me at home when those amazing smells waft my way and my little nose wavers in the breeze and excitement fills the air. I would be happy as the only dog, but maybe I can learn from a pleasant, welcoming, preferably female companion (sigh...what if it was a Beagle just like me?). I also have a lovely singing voice; some call it a howl but it is part of my hound heritage and I am so proud to have it I only exercise it when I want to be with you, or I know I am going for a walk! I know I am very popular with the UCHS staff and vol- unteers, who are concerned about my well-being as they feel I am beginning to give up hope and am often acting like a depressed boy. I feel especially sad because I watched my friend Montana go to her forever home recently and I do not know the other residents or even really care to get to know them... that is what depression is I am told. People have thrown me away so many times and I have never felt loved at all, only by the Shelter caregivers but although I appreciate their loving care, it is not the same as having my own family. Are you the ones who have it in your heart to give me that chance, to help me reach my potential. I truly am a good little boy with no evil intent, but need to be shown with consistency what is expected of me and I will try and become the boy you want me to be and who I know I could be if given that chance. Please come soon or it may be too late because if I stop eating and go into a depression...(I will not go there). I am waiting for you every hour of the day, just call 519- 833-2287 and ask for Dudley. SOS Dudley is giving up hope! JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer The Upper Credit Humane Society is holding a rabies and microchip clinic for cats and dogs on Saturday, September 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elmira Farm Service, Ospringe (southeast corner, Highways 124 and 25).
