And the struggling Mississauga Chargers were on the receiving end of the Raiders scoring onslaught Wednesday night, taking a 12-1 pound- ing at the Port Credit Arena. Georgetowns shooters were merciless against Mississauga goaltender Vince Cusick who was acquired from the Raiders on Monday outshooting the hosts 77-29. Cusick was in net for all 12 goals, which included hat tricks by Marcus Pryde, Jeremy Wick and captain Evan Zych. Jordan So, Ashton Anderson and Sean Thomas also tallied for the 3-2-0 Raiders and the only shot to get past new goalie Tony Capobianco came on the power play midway through the second period. After starting the regular season of the newly named Ontario Junior Hockey League with embarrassing home losses to Huntsville and Vaughan, the Raiders were able to put together a pair of away victories this week, edging past the Bramalea Blues 4-3 in overtime Tuesday. Veteran centre Andrew Marcoux scored twice and set up new linemate Wicks clincher 31 seconds into extra time at the Powerade Centre. The 20-year-old Marcoux, who hails from nearby Rockwood, is as close to being local as any other Raider, having played lacrosse for the Halton Hills Jr. B Bulldogs last season. Picked up in a trade from the OJHLs Kingston Voyageurs for the rights to OHL prospects Spencer Metcalfe and Anthony Luciani on the eve of the regu- lar season, Marcoux is looking to improve on last years 30-goal, 58-point season. Having graduated from fire college in Kingston, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Marcoux recently landed a spot with the fire station in Rockwood and although the Voyageurs are expected to be one of the top teams in the league this year, he requested the trade to Georgetown. Its an opportunity I cannot pass up and actually Ive always wanted to play for the Raiders because theyve got a great organization, said Marcoux, who is working in a factory as he builds a resume to become a full-time fireman. The support thats out there for the club is something that I havent seen in my career. Its close to home and its everything you want for your last year of junior. With Marcoux playing alongside Wick and Mark McGowan, that trio has the potential to be one of the OJHLs top offensive units, although 2007-08 lead- ing scorer McGowan has somehow been held pointless through the first five games, despite having no lack of chances to find the net. We had a rough start as a team, but its a good challenge for us and its only going to build character, Marcoux added. Its better to go through this at the start of the season than at the end. We have the potential to be a really good team and its coming around. Its a mat- ter of confidence and the guys getting to know each other better. The Raiders will face Bramalea at home this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Alcott Arena, followed by their Governors Showcase matchup against host Bowmanville on Sunday evening, which is expected to draw dozens of scouts. Raiders snap out of scoring slump in a big way Georgetown Raider forward Andrew Marcoux (40) causes problems for Mississauga goalie Vince Cusick and his defensive teammates in their Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup Wednesday night at the Port Credit Arena. The Raiders led 4-0 half way through the first period and went on to rout the Chargers 12-1, firing 77 shots at Cusick.
