Just two of the five candidates in the riding for the upcoming federal election showed up at St. Pauls Anglican Church for the political debate, which was hosted by the Norval Community Association. And the discussion often reverted back to the same question: Who was in attendance, and who wasnt? Green Party candidate Brent Bouteiller and Liberal Party represen- tative Bruce Bowser turned up to speak, as did a couple of Brampton West riding hopefuls in Jagtar Shergill from the New Democratic Party and the Green Partys Patti Chmelyk. Discussion moderator Janet Kuzniar said afterward that MP Michael Chong and his ruling Conservative mate from Brampton West, Kyle Seeback, did pass on their regrets prior to the meeting that they would be unable to attend. Wellington-Halton Hills NDP can- didate Noel Duignan did not respond to e-mail invitations to attend and Christian Heritage Party Jeffery Streutker was not heard from. Id be less than honest if I said Im not disappointed that somebody from our elected government didnt make it a priority to find the time to be here tonight, said the 48-year-old Bowser, making his first run at elected office. The Fourth Georgetown Scouting group took part in the annual Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up sponsored by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Boston Pizza, Saturday despite the wet weather. Six-year-old Ryan Docker (left) and six-year-old Kyle Lehouillier, both of the 4th Georgetown Beavers, were among those cleaning up Silver Creek in the Hungry Hollow area of Georgetown. Along with bags of trash, participants also pulled a car frame from the creek. Photo by Jon Borgstrom Plenty of no-shows at local debate EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer See LIBERAL, pg. 3
