A RAIDERS vs STREETSVILLE DERBYS Saturday, October 4, 2008 7:30 pm Mold-Masters SportsPlex (Alcott Arena) Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, October 1, 2008 3 Halton Regional Police are investigating a pair of restau- rant break and enters in Georgetown Saturday morning that appear to be related incidents of theft. At around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, a glass door at the front of Quiznos Subs on Guelph St. was broken and a male entered the premises, stealing the cash register before flee- ing into an awaiting vehicle. Soon after, between 6:50-7 a.m., the front window of 241 Pizza at 184 Guelph St. was smashed and a man stole the Sharp cash register and took off with another suspect in a silver vehicle. Police say the man who entered the store was 6-foot, 250-lbs. with long, dark hair and a moustache. He was wearing a baseball hat, glasses and an orange construction vest and the vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Guelph St. An undetermined amount of cash was taken in both thefts. Construction materials from the Remington Homes development in Georgetown South were stolen Saturday morning and a witness spotted two men leaving the scene, driving westbound on 10 Sideroad in a silver sport-utility vehicle. A woman awoke to a barking dog at a Golden Way resi- dence at around 5:40 a.m. and saw the suspects load six sheets of 4x8-foot plywood into the van, along with a num- ber of 2x4s and 2x6s. Both suspects are described as white with slim builds wearing blue jeans. The driver was wearing a blue and grey hoodie and running shoes. Halton Hills firefighters responded to a small fire burn- ing under a gazebo at Cedarvale Park Sunday at 2:17 a.m., but upon arriving found the entrance to the park had been blocked by garbage cans and large rocks. Crews on foot extinguished the fire and contacted Halton Regional Police to investigate further. Police/fire blotter Suspects sought in smash and grabs At the all-candidates meeting in Norval Monday night, candidates from both Welllington-Halton Hills and Brampton West ridings were on hand to take part in the debate regarding local issues. Those attending were (from left) Brampton West Green Party candidate Patti Chmelyk, Wellington-Halton Hills Green Party can- didate Brent Bouteiller, Wellington-Halton Hills Liberal candidate Bruce Bowser and Brampton West NDP can- didate Jagtar Shergill. The two students spoke about the conference and their partici- pation in the program. Photo by Ted Brown I think (the Conservatives) have a lot of questions that need to be answered and a lot of questions that we need to ask of them between now and Oct. 14. Bouteiller, an engineer from Centre-Wellington in his fifth federal bid for the Green Party, agreed in dis- appointment with Bowser about the 40 per cent candi- date turnout. The four candidates were given two minutes each to respond to questions from Kuzniar during the 80- minute meeting. At one point, while answering to the assertion that Prime Minister Stephen Harper is stacking the Prime Ministers Office and cabinet with former MPPs of Ontario Premier Mike Harris during his ruling days of the 1990s, a man in the audience asked aloud sarcastically, Cant wait to hear Mike Chongs response to that. Even Kuzniar weighed in on the subject of the Tory absences. They failed to attend so it seems like this is an ABC campaign Anything But Conservatives. Boutellier also addressed the issue of the set elec- tion by the Conservatives in two weeks time, making for three national votes in the past four years. I dont think that the electorate really understands the negative impact it has had, especially during this campaign, he said. Its impacting our ability to prepare and our ability to go door-to-door and reach out to all the people in the ridings. And therefore, the people are not being informed as they well could be. Bowser, president and CEO of Mississauga-based AMJ Campbell Van Lines, made reference on a number of occasions to recent comments by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and the 100,000-plus jobs lost in Ontario in the past year. I was embarrassed earlier this year to hear our Finance Minister stand in front of the world business community and tell them that Ontario would be the last place that he would invest in, and he said it again last week, Bowser said.
