For breaking news go to: www.independentfreepress.com Halton Hills award-winning newspaper Politeness reigned in the first hour of the Wellington-Halton Hills all-candidates debate on Tuesday night, but then it descended into a shouting match between candidates with members of the audience joining in. The debate, hosted by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)- Georgetown, focused on questions from the near-capacity crowd in the 267-seat John Elliott Theatre. All five candidates attended this event unlike the previous night when only two of the five attended a Norval Community Association debate. The candidates are MP Michael Chong (Conservative), who is seeking re-election; Brent Bouteiller (Green), Bruce Bowser (Liberal), Noel Duignan (New Democratic Party) and Jeffery Streutker (Christian Heritage Party). The audience seemed to be stacked with mainly Liberal and Conservative-leaning sup- porters either applauding or vocally-chal- lenging the candidates but some Bouteiller and Duignan comments were well received too. Gasps, groans and heckling followed the majority of Streutkers comments. Questions varied from climate change/envi- ronment, economy, poverty, Harper politics, gas tax, early childcare program, Conservative cuts to Status of Women Canada, and ideologi- cal approaches to decision-making.
