You not only risk your life when you drink and drive, you also risk losing your license, incurring expensive fines, doing time in jail or even causing injury or death to an inno- cent bystander. With all these conse- quences facing you, driving under the influence is the worst decision you can make. Dont take chances with drinking and driving; theres always a bet- ter alternative. Since 1994, World Teachers Day has been celebrated internationally on Oct. 5 as an annual event to recognize the work and the role played by teach- ers. The Halton public and Catholic school boards send to all of their schools posters designed and distrib- uted by the Canadian Teachers Federation and Education International. While no special events for World Teachers Day are being planned by either board, congratulatory ads will appear in local newspapers. The Halton public board has about 3,100 teachers at its 78 elementary and 17 high schools while the Catholic board has approximately 2,200 elementary, secondary and occasional teachers at its 39 elemen- tary and eight secondary schools. There are also a few French public and French Catholic board schools in Halton. Our staff does an exceptional job. The myriad of opportunities that teachers present to our students today shapes and creates the world of tomorrow, said Alice Anne LeMay, chair of the Halton Catholic board of trustees. Our teachers and classroom staff deserve recognition for the caring and generous ways through which they work tirelessly to help our students grow in their Catholic faith and expand their knowledge and skills, both inside and outside of the class- room, she added.
