The Jaguars improved to 3-0 with a 50-2 vic- tory over their rivals. Photo by Eamonn Maher Christ the Kings Jaguars decided to take the drama out of their cross-town senior football rivalry with the Georgetown District High School Rebels for the 2008 season any- way, piling up a 50-2 victory at GDHS on Friday afternoon. Running back Dan Rovere rushed for four touchdowns to highlight the dominat- ing performance, in which the Jaguars led 29-2 at halftime. Scott Green, Joel Musial and Gabe Aubrey-Morin also recorded major scores for the visitors, with Billy Pavlopoulos adding seven converts and a safety. The Jaguars will host 3-0 Holy Trinity today (Wednesday) beginning at 3:30 p.m. In the junior contest last Friday, the host Rebels prevailed over CtK in a 12-9 final and are now 3-0. Basketball The Georgetown junior Rebels rebound- ed from their first loss of the regular season last week to win the consolation final of a tournament at White Oaks in Oakville over the weekend. The Rebels dropped their first game of the tourney 40-32 to Bishop Reding of Milton, then beat Robert Bateman 59-17 and Iroquois Ridge 44-22 to claim the third- place title. Lindsay Poulton was named the Rebel MVP for the tournament. The 5-1 GDHS juniors were edged 38-32 by Oakville-Trafalgar last week. With three more wins in four days over the weekend, Georgetown Raiders head coach and GM James Richmond says hes not keeping count of his clubs now-lengthy win streak. After a 4-3 shootout win over the host Vaughan Vipers on Monday night, the division-leading Raiders have reeled off nine straight victories in Ontario Junior Hockey League play and are still undefeated on the road with a 7-0-0 mark, good for 10-2-0 overall. The teams troubling start dropping its first two home games in lopsided affairs to Huntsville and Vaughan seems like a long time ago, and thats how Richmond prefers to view his teams prospects. Im not counting how many (wins) right now because I havent looked back. Were just happy that the guys are work- ing hard and playing well, said the third-year bench boss. As a coaching staff, were trying to look ahead, which is going to be a huge weekend for us with Oakville on Friday and Milton in here Saturday. Last Fridays tightly contested 4-2 win in Burlington bumped the Raiders ahead of the Cougars for top spot in the OJHLs MacKinnon Division through the first quarter of the regular season. Defenceman Jordan Dewey potted the winner on a screened point shot early in the third period, followed by an insur- ance marker by Mark McGowan in the final two minutes just the first of the year for the Raiders left winger after leading the club in points in 2007-08. If we can get Mark going again, its going to make things tougher for the other teams because weve been getting offence from a lot of different guys to this point, Richmond added. Jordan So and Andrew Marcoux also scored for the Raiders Friday and Marcus Pryde picked up three assists. Rookie winger Aaron Pearce scored his first three goals of the campaign Saturday at home versus the Streetsville Derbys, breaking up a close game that finished with a 7-4 Georgetown win in front of about 300 spectators. Marcoux (2), Fred Gervasi and So found the net for the Raiders and veter- an forward Jeremy Wick helped set up four of the goals. Kyle Essery (12) of the Georgetown Raiders runs inter ference in front of the Burlington net just as a shot by teammate Jordan So gets past Cougar netminder Andrew Hare last Friday in an OJHL contest at the Wave Twin Rinks. The 11-2-0 Raiders moved into first place in their division with a 4-2 triumph and are now on a nine-game win streak.
