A new study finds many of those infections could be avoided if parents who smoke would make one important change. A recent study in the archives of pediatric and adolescent medicine is giving parents another reason to quit. It finds exposure to cigarette smoke in the home increases childrens r isk of middle ear infections. The smoke inflames the tissues of the middle ear so that viruses and bacteria can invade more easily and cause infection. (A) Denturist Georgetown Denture Clinic, 18 Church Street, Georgetown, Ontario 905-877-2359 (Across from the Library and Cultural Centre) Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, October 8, 2008 17 Two Halton Hills youths tore up the tracks on the provincial BMX bike racing circuit this past summer and both finished up rated number one in their respective age classifications. Kyle Pearson, 17, and 10-year-old Troy Bishop chalked up several victories during the 2008 Ontario Cup schedule to accu- mulate enough points for their titles. Pearson, of Georgetown, placed first at the Ontario Cycling Association BMX championships in Milton in each of the junior elite and junior elite cruiser cate- gories, while also emerging with gold medals in the 16-18 boys division and the team relay at the Ontario Summer Games at Kingston. The Christ the King student earned a bronze medal at the national champi- onships in the junior elite cruiser finals held in Abbotsford, B.C. back in May. Bishop, a Limehouse resident, has only been racing competitively for five years, yet hes moved up from the novice level to intermediate, recording first-place finishes in all eight races he entered in the recent Ontario Cup series events held at the Track 2000 facility in Milton. Pearson and Bishop secured the 2008 overall titles for their respective divisions in the provincial points series at the Ontario Cup championships at Saugeen Shores last month. Pearson won both the Cruiser & 20 and Jr. Elite classes and Bishop is now the Ontario champ among the 10-year-old Intermediate riders. Six-year-old Romyk Soltys of Acton also made his way to the podium, finish- ing third in the Ontario Cup points stand- ings for the novice category. Other Halton Hills competitors who have earned a provincial ranking include: Vic Placido (1st, expert); Greg Bidwell (2nd, elite); Grant Colwell (5th, 7 novice); Ryan Colwell (2nd, 30-34 cruiser); Nick McKay (2nd, 13 intermediate). On Monday in Vaughan, the visitors thoroughly outplayed the Vipers, peppering 49 shots at netminder Kori Coelho before finally winning in the shootout. Georgetown goalie Tony Capobianco improved to 8-1-0 with a 3.01 goals-against aver- age, with markers coming from Dewey, fellow blueliner Mike Baird with his first of the year, McGowan and then Trevor Branning recorded the shootout clincher. That victory was somewhat costly, however, as three Raiders are facing two-game suspen- sions. Veteran rearguard Chris Borges (two game misconducts), winger David Mathers (instiga- tor penalty) and Pryde (check- ing from behind) could miss this weekends action, although Richmond is appealing Prydes situation to the league. In roster moves this week, the Raiders sent goaltender Paul Claxton, a prospect with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Owen Sound Attack who served as a backup here last season, to the OJHLs Hamilton Red Wings in a cash deal. Raiders continue perfect road play Continued from pg. 16 Troy Bishop (left) and Kyle Pearson (right) rode off with gold medals from the recent OCA BMX Ontario Cup championships in Port Elgin while Romyk Soltys (centre) earned a bronze medal to cap a successful 2008 season for the trio of local-area residents.
