Want to be your own Acton/Georgetown, Friday, October 17, 2008 9 Voter turnout in Tuesdays federal election was down nationwide and Wellington-Halton Hills was no exception. The final numbers are in and Elections Canada sta- tistics show that of 79,566 eligible voters in the riding, 50,805 cast a vote. That translates to a 63.8 per cent voter turnout rate, compared to 71 per cent in 2006. Nationally, voter turnout was 59 per cent an all- time low. In the Wellington-Halton Hills riding, which has a population of 111,241, of the 50,805 ballots cast, 154 were rejected, bringing the final total of valid votes to 50,651. Students at Acton High School held a mock elec- tion on Oct. 10. In that contest Conservative Michael Chong was the winner with 124 votes, followed by the NDPs Noel Duignan with 81 votes, Green Party candidate Brent Bouteiller had 74 votes, Liberal candidate Bruce Bowser earned 36 votes and Christian Heritage Party candidate Jeffrey Streutker had 10 votes.
